Statement from Wirt County Schools Superintendent-March 13, 2020
Governor Justice has announced that public schools in West Virginia will be closed as of Friday, March 13, 2020, indefinitely, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. This means that all students in Wirt County will not be coming to school, until further notice.
All students have been given NTI Day or snow day packets or assignments. This information has been provided by the teachers to their students and students can access additional help or information by calling the school or by going to the school’s website. Students will be working with teachers online or on the phone to complete their work throughout the day.
The WVDE and the Governor will be assessing the Coronavirus situation throughout our state and nation weekly. The CDC, WV Department of Health, and Secretary of State’s office are providing information about the outbreak on their websites. (coronavirus.wv.gov cdc.gov/coronavirus) All of this information can be accessed from our Wirt County Schools Website. wirtcountyschools.com
Due to the closure of schools for students in West Virginia, we are concerned about the many students who benefit from our child nutrition program. We will be providing meals to students throughout this time of school closure in a variety of ways. We will deliver food to bus stops that children normally would use to come to school. Each day we will announce the food delivery schedule on the ParentLink system.
All spring sports, extracurricular, (after school tutoring, soccer club) and co-curricular activities (clubs-FBLA, FFA) have been cancelled. This includes any fund raising activities associated with any of our organizations. All trips for students and staff have been cancelled.
All Wirt County Schools staff will report from 7:30-3:30 each day and the central office will be open.
The library will be closed for this first week to be sure that we are able to clean and disinfect this area.
We are working to be sure that our School Based Health program, the Wellness Center remains open.
Each day for at least the next week I will contact you and your family to let you know of any new developments.Below is a link for school guidance that we have put together from the Superintendents.
