GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR TOURISM
2026 Student Applications Now Open

The West Virginia Department of Education is excited to announce that student applications are now open for 9th and 10th grade students to apply for the 2026 Governor’s School for Tourism (GST). WVU will host the residential program as we travel our Country Roads for 10 full days from June 20-July 29, 2026. This FREE honors program is open to students who have an interest in tourism, hospitality, and WV history . Please visit our website for the application and trip details.

The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation (TGKVF) is hosting a Virtual Scholarship Information Session Tuesday, November 18 from 6:00pm-7:00pm. TGKVF Scholarship Staff will be providing an overview of the program and application process including details on who is eligible, what information the application asks for, as well as a walkthrough of the online application itself. TGKVF's scholarship program is statewide and awarded over $1.7 million to 590 students last year. Zoom registration is required and can be found here.

WCHS Weekly Events - Week of November 3, 2025

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Wirt County Community in Schools (CIS) staff joined hundreds of other educators at Robert C. Byrd High School to be presented with a generous donation of $1,500 to help support our students and families in need. This funding was made possible for CIS schools through the generous donations by Shawn and Angela Ball/L&S Toyota, the Pack Family Foundation and the Wing 2 Wing Foundation for their contribution of more than $1,000,000 to the Communities In Schools (CIS) virtual pantries throughout West Virginia. Working with the WVDE and the United Way of Central West Virginia, the donation will help all public schools in the state address the extensive needs of students. This funding will be used to help buy essentials such as shoes, backpacks, hygiene items, school supplies, etc. for students at all three schools.

Wirt County High School would like to say thanks for putting students first!

Moore's Piggly Wiggly is graciously offering 10% of their sales on Friday, October 31 to purchase non perishable food items for all three schools! We are very grateful for their continued support of our schools!
