WCHS Welcomes Mrs. Laura Burns ~ Communities In Schools Site Coordinator

Wirt County High School is excited to welcome Mrs. Laura Burns as our new Communities In Schools Site Coordinator!

Mrs. Burns comes to WCHS with a passion for supporting students, strengthening communities, and helping young people discover the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

A Wood County native and graduate of Parkersburg South High School, Mrs. Burns earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology, along with a minor in Business, from Fairmont State University. Her love of sociology led her to Ohio University, where she earned her Master’s degree in Sociology while serving as a teaching assistant. She hopes to pursue a doctorate in the future, continuing to build her expertise in community development and growth.

Throughout her education and career, Mrs. Burns has worked with organizations dedicated to helping others. She believes that community is one of our greatest assets and that strong support systems can make a tremendous difference in the lives of students and families. She has already been impressed by the way the Wirt County community comes together to support its students.

When she isn't working with students, Mrs. Burns enjoys reading, trying new hobbies, and spending time with her German Shepherd, Finn—and she says she is always happy to share pictures of him!

One of her favorite parts of the job is simply talking with students about their interests, hobbies, goals, and plans for the future. Whether a student is thinking about college, a career, or another path after high school, she is excited to listen, encourage, and help.

“I want to be a resource for this school and these students. I always tell the staff and students that if they have an issue, they can come find me—and if I don’t have the answer, then I will find it.”

Mrs. Burns is looking forward to attending WCHS events and games, getting to know our families, and becoming even more involved in the Wirt County community.

We are thrilled to have her joining us and helping our Tigers grow, succeed, and prepare for BIGGER TOMORROWS!

Welcome to WCHS, Mrs. Burns!

Get a head start on your back to school paperwork! The school website now has our digital enrollment packet, allowing you to finish most of the first day paperwork before the first day. Additionally, the digital Acceptable Use Policy form is available - students with no previous AUP violations may pick up their devices at Open House with a completed AUP! Our parking application is also live, including for seniors applying to paint their spots. All these forms are available at our back to school hub at wirtcountyschools.com/o/wchs. Click on the link from the homepage to access all the forms.
