OUTSIDE PRESENTERS POLICY
All outside presenters will present their materials in such a way that it will not disparage against any student.
The administrator at each school will be responsible to insure the sponsor of any outside presenter follows the Wirt County Board of Education procedures.
Administrative Procedures
The purpose of this set of procedures is to meet the intent of the Wirt County Board of Education Policy for Outside Presenters.
1) Presenters are not permitted to use foul language in their presentation nor while on school property.
2) Presenters will not advocate any sexual preferences.
3) All presentations pertaining to sex or drug education will be audio or visually recorded, unless the presenting organization does not allow such recordings. In such a case, the presenting organization would be required to schedule a presentation specifically for parents before the school’s presentation takes place. .
4) Students in sixth grade or below will be separated by gender during sex education presentations. Students in seventh grade or above will be separated when appropriate.
5) The sponsor or teacher of the presenter will meet with the presenter before the presentation is given for assurance that the presenter is aware of and will follow the above procedure. In addition, the sponsor will view all materials provided by the presenter for handouts or viewing for assurance that is appropriate before being viewed or issued to the students.
6) Information will be sent to the home of each child who would normally attend the presentation by mail (mailed at least 10 days prior to the presentation) when the presentation deals with sex or drug education with a brief description of the content. Parents have a right to choose that their child does not see, hear, or participate in the presentation by informing the principal of the school in writing one (1) day before the presentation. School personnel will provide alternative activities for those students who are not permitted to attend the presentations. In addition, parents may request by writing and presenting to the principal of the school, that their child be excluded from participating in any and all outside presentations.
7) The sponsor or teacher of the presenter will remain in the room with the presenter and students during the entire time the presenter is with the students.
8) The sponsor or teacher will insure the presenter sticks to the pre-agreed upon topic. The sponsor is to stop the presentation if he/she sees it moving into questionable areas.
